I had visited Kalyan Bhel around six year back when one of friend had taken me to taste this savoury snack..called Bhel Puri in Marathi…made of puffed rice, some namkeek item ( Farsan) coriander leaves, Finely chopped raw mangoes and to add a punch … tamarind sauce..
I met Ramesh ( owner of Kalyan Bhel )who narrated his story.. He dedicates the whole initiative to his mother.. who used to sell vegetables near Kalyan Society adjoining timber market.. How as a child he used to help his poor mother to earn a dime… As he grew up… he opened a small joint on the street and started selling Bhel for the labourers who used to work in the Timber market… as the Bhel was know as a poor man snack.. But God has his own plans…His Bhel became famous.. as the taste was unique..May be he is such a simple soul that the his bhel had to be tasty..
The small Bhel joint was soon popular as Kalyan Bhel… Ramesh Bahi soon became a very famous man.. as he opened a shop under the name and style of Kalyan Bhel… Today he proudly owns 6 Kalyan Bhel Stores…talk like a business men.. You will be surprised he knows all management concepts like Quality Controls HR Systems.. Marketing in his own language… Nothing beats like to be natural….
