Fish Kofta Curry- Rachana Nagrani

Fish kofta curry or Macher kofta curry or fish balls curry are the names for this recipe.

My mom use to make this for our family on special occasions. Thought of trying my hands on this recipe. So here you go
Ingredients for kofta
Basa fish fillet – 1
Chopped onion – 1
Chopped green chilly – 1
A handful of finely chopped coriander leaves
Gram flour – 2 to 3 tbsp
Salt to taste
Jeera powder – 1tsp
Coriander powder-1tsp
Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
Ginger garlic paste – 1tbsp
Oil for deep frying
Method of making kofta
Mash the basa fish fillet with the help of hands and add all the spices mentioned above. Also mix gram flour to it. Now make small balls like shape and keep aside.
Heat the oil for frying in a pan or kadai. Fry the fish balls on medium flame till they are golden. Once fried, keep them aside.
Ingredients for gravy
3 onions roughly chopped
Ginger garlic paste – 1tbsp
Green chillies slit -2
Salt to taste
chopped corainder leaves for garnish
Red chilli powder – 2tsp
Turmeric – 1tsp
Coriander powder – 2tsp
Garam masala – 1tsp
Oil – 2tbsp
Bay leaf -2
Cumin seeds – 1tsp
Method of making gravy
Boil a glass of water in a pan, add roughly chopped onion in to it. Take out the onions when tender. Grind it into paste. Now heat 2tbsp oil, add bay leaf and cumin seeds, later add onion paste. Cook for about 5 minutes, then add ginger garlic paste to it. Keep stirring so that it does not stick to bottom. Add all the spices and give it a good stir. Cook with covered lid for few minutes or till the oil separates. Now add water as per your desired consistency. Also add the fish kofta
and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Turn off the stove. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with Jeera rice or chapati.
